If your teenager is searching for a summer jobs for 17 year olds, there are several options open to them. Here are a few common summer jobs:

Babysitting – This is a huge responsibility and hence is best for the more mature teen. Many potential employers may look for teens with childcare qualifications. Babysitter’s training classes offered by The Red Cross will help to educate your teen on how to care for infants and older children in addition to teaching them first aid skills and basic safety.

Pet Sitting – For the animal-loving teen, pet sitting can be a joy. Your teen is likely to be required to work early in the mornings and in the evenings. This makes the job ideal for throughout the summer and during term time at school. This job will be perfect for teens that have a passion for animals and who could provide a pet with lots of love and care.

Landscaping and Yard Maintenance – A number of landscaping and yard maintenance companies take on extra help around summertime. Your teen could attempt to get taken on by one of these firms or they could start out on their own. However, if your teen’s clients do not possess their own gardening equipment, they may need to borrow equipment from their own home or invest in their own equipment.

Food Service – Vacancies at local restaurants or fast food houses are good for teens who are willing to work hard for their money. Your teen may be required to work long hours yet this is a common way in which teens can make money over the summer vacation.

Retail – Retail jobs are the most sought after jobs for 17 year olds. The thrill of working in the mall and the allure of a healthy discount mean that teens cannot get enough of retail jobs. However, the result of this is positions that are hard to acquire due to the strong competition. Many retail stores require work experience and may only employ individuals over 16 or 18 years of age.

Help your teen to scour the job advertisements and put the word out that your teenager is looking for a job. Look over their CV and help them to get the best summer job for teens.
