Dish Network Vs Cable TV Packages

by Flemin on March 18, 2010

With cable television, there are generally two choices in most areas of the United States.  You can either get service from the local cable company, such as Comcast or whichever entity serves your area.  Or you can go with the satellite TV option which means you will have to either own or rent a home where you can have the dish installed, or have a private patio where the dish can be placed.

The important thing to before you just call any company and sign up is compare the packages offered.  Dish Network offers 5 different packages, and they start as low as $25 per month once the promotional price is figured into the equation.   On the other hand, your typical cable TV company will usually only offer two or three different packages to pick from.  Even better, with satellite service you can easily switch your package with a quick phone call or a website click if you register online.  I like this because I get a heftier package during the colder winter months, then drop down to a more basic package come summertime when there are other things to do.

Another reason to compare Dish Network vs cable television is the recent breakthrough in HD programming.  Big providers like Dish and Direct TV generally have much more HD content when you look at the channels available.  There is the On-demand consideration, where cable TV companies claim they have more HD choices.  But they are counting all of the shows available as a choice, which of course is going to outpace the satellite TV HD channel count.  Generally, cable companies have fewer HD channels because their networks are filled to capacity. In order to really compete with satellite TV, cable companies are going to have to really bite the bullet and spend a lot of money to upgrade their infrastructure.
