An a3 photo printer is usually an expensive machine. However, if you look hard enough, you will be able to find some models that offer similar features to expensive models and cost a fraction of the price. We’re actually going to go over one of those models here, which is the Epson Stylus Photo 1400. It has a price range of $179 to $299 and can be found on Amazon for $199. There are many positives and a few negatives for this model, which will be covered below.
The Epson Stylus Photo 1400 stands out because of the quality it offers at such a reasonable price. With Claria photographic inks for improved detail and durability, auto color and lighting correction, 6 separate ink cartridges, and a DX5 MicroPiezo print head, you’re sure to be impressed with the quality of the photo prints. They should be able to last up to 98 years behind glass and even longer if kept in a darkroom. In addition to that, photo prints will be smudge, fade, water, and scratch-resistant. Needless to say, you won’t have much to worry about as far as damage is concerned.
This a3 photo printer is capable of anything from a 4 x 6-inch print to a 13 x 44-inch print. This gives you plenty of room for creativity. Many people like to use this model for scrapbooking, in which they often use 12 x 12-inch paper. If you use plain paper on this machine, the input tray can handle up to 120 sheets. And it can handle up to 20 sheets of Epson photo paper. Another nice convenience feature is that it’s PictBrige-compatible. You will be able to print directly from digital cameras. On the other hand, this also leads into the short list of negatives.
The 1400 is PictBridge-compatible, but it has no card reader; therefore, memory cards are not an option. Another negative is ink consumption, but this should come as no surprise for any type of printer or any brand. A final negative is that black and white prints aren’t great. Then again, if you’re considering this model, that’s probably not a concern.
The Epson Stylus Photo 1400 is 24.2 x 31.6 x 16.3 inches and it weighs 31.8 lbs. There’s a USB and Direct USB interface. And if speed is important to you, expect slightly above average results (15 ppm).
