Full High Definition Television goes by many different names. The usual acronym for full high definition television is Full HD TV but some other trendy names for the TV include True HDTV and Ultra HD. The more technical term for the TV is 1080p. It is important that you do your research and realize that these are all the same televisions and they just conform to 1080p standard. The televisions have a resolution of 1920 X 1080 pixels and use the progressive scanning. The progressive scanning method is what the P stands for in 1080p.
So you may be asking, what is the significance of this television and why are they superior to other televisions on the market? Basically it comes down to two aspects, resolution and scanning.
Resolution is basically the quantity of pixels that are used on the screen. It is in a format in which the number of vertical pixels times the horizontal pixels. When it comes to the full HD TV the pixels are 1920 X 1080. When it comes to the number of lines, the resolution is shortened to 1080, making it the highest number of pixels available on the market today.
TV programs are produced and broadcasted in resolutions up to a particular resolution. The alternate to the 1080p is 720 lines, which are obviously fewer lines, it is a commonly used broadcasting standard which obviously is not capable of producing as high resolutions as 1080 televisions.
The second aspect for these televisions is the scanning method. It is a little more difficult to explain. Imagine that every time something is displayed on the screen and goes away the pixels must be redrawn. This is done two ways. The two ways are interlaced scanning and progressive scanning. With interlaced scanning, alternate lines of pixel are refreshed for each frame. To refresh all lines of pixels, two frames must pass through. When it comes to progressive scanning, each line is refreshed for every frame. The end result is that the progressive scanning produces smoother images on the screen and this is especially noticeable with fast moving action such as sports.
