A lot of people are so busy with all the activities in their life that it is hard to actually find ways to fit in exercise to lose weight. On those rare occasions when they have free time it is hard to get motivated to work out. The best solution in these situations is to try to fit in a little exercise here and there.
Exercise is Beneficial
Lately there has been a lot of research on how exercise can help people to live longer and healthier lives. Just moderate exercise for 30 minutes a day can make a huge difference and make it less likely that you will have problems with illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis, among others. It will help you reach your weight loss goals as well. Those who just want to be healthier in general can even split up their half hour of exercise into three ten minute bouts of activity.
What is Moderate Exercise?
If you can’t exercise every day, you should try to squeeze in 30 minutes at least three times a week. You will still get a lot of benefits as long as the exercise is moderate. This means that you need to do something strenuous enough that you start to breathe harder, but that allows you to still be able to talk to someone at the same time.
Recommendations for Strength Training
Besides cardio, strength training is also very beneficial. Before doing this sort of exercise you should first warm-up. Then you should aim for 3 sets of 12-15 reps for each exercise. Then when you’ve finished, you should lightly stretch any muscles that you will be training for about 20-30 seconds to help increase your flexibility. You should only do this two or three times a week with a day of rest in between, and you should make sure to work different muscle groups on different days.
Set Goals to Keep You Motivated
One of the best ways to keep yourself motivated is to set goals to work toward. Once you have a goal you can determine the steps that you need to take and make a plan. You can then keep a workout journal so you can see how well you are doing and how far you have to go.
Staying Motivated
Remember that it takes quite a while to get fit, and you need to keep exercising the rest of your life to stay fit, so you want to find small things you can do in order to move you closer to this goal and keep you motivated to continue exercising. There are a number of things you can try in order to help you out with this:
* Work out with a friend. It is harder to cancel when someone else is involved.
* Try all sorts of different activities so you aren’t always doing the same exercise routine. That will keep things more interesting and help keep you motivated. You will also challenge your body more by changing activities from time to time.
* Have information on fitness and new workouts and weight loss products available to read whenever you have the free time. You might find some great new ideas for things to add to your routine to keep it interesting and challenging.
* Keep a favorite item of clothing that is a bit tight on hand so you can see whether or not you are making progress losing weight and get motivated to continue exercising.
* If you usually work out outdoors, be sure to have indoor alternatives that you can do in case the weather is bad.
* Figure out what time of day works out best for you by exercising at different times of day and noting how you feel.
* Add exercise by mixing in exercise when you are cleaning, parking further away from where you are going, taking the stairs, and taking walks after meals.
