Curtain Poles: Finding A Good Match To Your Room

by Flemin on July 11, 2010

Gone are the days of using old fashioned curtain tracks and in are the modern days of using curtain poles.  Often when deciding on curtains for a particular room in a home, it might all seem so simple until you see the wide variety of curtain poles in the market.  Many start looking for the curtains before they find the right curtain poles but the truth is that choosing the perfect curtain pole can in fact be the design point in which to decorate your room around.  Curtain poles shouldn’t be under estimated as they can play a huge focal point in a room.

Before you go out and buy curtain points, first look at your existing room where you wish to install them and see the ‘bigger’ picture.  Keep in mind the colors as well as the textures already in the room and if you have already bought your curtains you want find the perfect fit for them too.  Another point that is often forgotten is that size factor of the room plays a roll as to what effect they type of curtain poles will have.  For instance, if it is a small room and you go for big and bulky curtain poles you probably would create an imbalance and you would definitely make the room seem over crowded.

With that said, you also want to create a good balance with your curtains as well.  Just like fashion, little is more and you don’t really want to go over the top and over do things.  If your curtain design is simple, then go for curtain poles with more detail and vice versa.

On the note of balance, if you have wooden furniture in the room then stay with wooden curtain poles and if you have a metal look then keep with metal (the matching metal finish of course).  If you follow these guidelines then you won’t get it wrong and if ever in doubt, ask.  There is certainly no harm in asking for opinions before you make your final decision.
