The potential of battery operated string lights

by Flemin on February 1, 2010

It used to be the case that string lights were confined to a box in the loft for most of the year and were only dusted off and brought down at Christmas. With advances in LED technology and people wanting to decorate there home in new and exciting ways many people are using string lights all year round.

What’s interesting about string lights is the number of different forms that they come in, for example you can get string lights ranging from the simple classic type of a bare incandescent bulb all the way through to micro LED types where you can hardly see the ‘bulb’ when it is not switched on. The use of LED’s in home lighting has also led to other possibilities in the way that they are powered. LED lighting requires far less power than the traditional bulbs and as such can be powered by battery and even solar (if they are going outside). This gives rise to some exciting possibilities.

Owning a set of battery operated sting lights gives you the opportunity to put lights in the remotest of places in your home because they do not need to be near a mains power source. What this means is that you can add some excitement to areas of your home that are usually bland and boring. Take for example a staircase – many stairwells will have a window half way up them and some people may choose to put a plant on that window sill. With a set battery operated string lights you could carefully weave them throughout the plant so when the sun sets you can turn on the lights and suddenly your boring and bland stairwell actually looks fantastic.
