Start Selling on eBay!

If you need some extra money and you have not tried selling things on eBay, you are really missing the boat.  For some reason, many people are intimidated by the idea of putting merchandise up for sale on eBay.  The process of listing and selling your items is really remarkably simple.

eBay has a very strong interest in making the selling process as painless as possible.  If people find that it is too difficult to do, they will not bother putting their items up for sale.  What that means to eBay, is that they will not make money.  They depend on taking their cut of every completed listing to survive.  If you can follow simple instructions and take a picture with a digital camera, you can get your item up for sale on eBay in no time in all.

When you are just starting out as a new seller on eBay, you will not have any feedback to show that you are trustworthy, unless you have made a few purchases in the past.  Starting to sell with a zero feedback can make things a little bit more difficult.  It might be wise to game a little bit of experience by making a couple of low cost purchases just to build up some feedback and get a feel for how the site works.  You can look at it as an excuse to buy some silly, low cost item that you have been wanting for a while.

Once you are ready to start selling, do not go out and buy hundreds of wholesale items right off the bat.  Instead, check out the local garage sales and keep your eyes open for old merchandise that is in good condition.  There’s a very good chance that somebody out there is a collector of whatever you find it will be willing to pay you more than you spent at a garage sale.

Start by purchasing small items that are not difficult to store.  Sometimes people will sell off entire collections of small items like antique salt and pepper shakers for very reasonable prices.  These collections can usually be broken up and sold individually for a nice profit.  Larger items sometimes sell very well too.  Items like vintage coffee tables are very popular on eBay and can usually be purchased for a relatively low cost during moving sales.  You might want to avoid larger items as you are starting out however, because shipping can be a bit of a hassle.

If you start out dealing in the collectibles category, you will find thousands of potential items that you can keep an eye out for at local sales.  For people looking to start making a little extra money, this can be a great place to start.
