Outsized Dogs

You may be looking for a pedigree dog or quite happy to go to the local dog home and find yourself a mutt.  Either way you will have some idea of the maximum size of dog that you are willing and able to care for.  If you like the idea of a large dog then there are several things that you will need to consider before you take the step of acquiring one.

Firstly, large dogs will need an large dog kennel.  For this you will need at least a reasonably large sized garden to fit it in without it feeling like your whole garden has been filled up.  Dog houses also need accessories to make them comfortable for your dog.  Accessories such as water bowls and toys don’t need to be any different in size to ones for medium sized dogs but you will need an extra large dog bed so that your dog isn’t uncomfortably spilling over the edges of his bed.

Large dogs also need a lot more exercise than smaller dogs and so you will need to be willing to go on a lot of walks and to spend quality time playing with your dog every day.  If a large dog is left to get bored and has loads of energy that he has no way of expending then he will be capable to causing a lot of damage to your house.  If you find that he tends to pull whilst out on walks then you can buy a large dog harness which will give you the control back into walkies.

What with the added expense of buying an extra large dog kennel and the huge amounts of food that a large dog can eat you might be having second thoughts about buying one.  However, the advantages are great.  Large dogs are known to be much more even tempered than small ones and often make excellent companions in households with children.
