For a Fascinating Holiday, Try Hong Kong

by Flemin on January 13, 2010

Hong Kong is a frenetic and fascinating city with heavy influences from both China and Britain. As a holiday destination, it is an unusual and exciting place to visit at any time of the year.

There are many interesting festivals on in Hong Kong throughout the year to excite the traveller and food has always played a major part of culture here. The restaurants are famous for their quality and atmosphere.

Still maintaining an air of independence from the old days, Hong Kong’s immigration is separate from mainland China’s laws which means those travelling from the UK do not need a visa to gain entry. Although, you will not be able to visit China itself without one.

Shopping in Hong Kong is a big attraction and most malls are open from 10 am until around midnight (longer still if there are customers to be served). Most people are on the lookout for jewelry, electronics or fashion clothing and some great prices are to be had if you have the patience to shop around. Shop keepers are usually open to haggling if you feel up to it.

In recent years, a number of high quality museums have opened in Hong Kong which showcase the province’s rich cultural legacy. There are too many now to take in on one visit, but most tastes are catered for.

There are numerous city parks for those yearning for some quiet time (with some of them featuring some wonderful Hong Kong wildlife). There is also a Disney theme park if you have children with you.

You are sure to enjoy your time in this wonderful city. Hong Kong is an extremely culture rich city with a unique energy not found elsewhere. The food is great, the nightlife amazing and the people friendly. However you may want to take an extra suitcase as you will be sure to pay a visit to the famous shopping malls!
